This assignment was one of the most challenging tasks I completed during the course. Although I considered the topic relevant and genuinely interesting, developing a research proposal required a much deeper understanding of academic writing conventions than I initially expected. One of the aspects I found most difficult was moving beyond simply describing sources and learning how to synthesize and connect different authors within a literature review. Looking back, I understand why the feedback emphasized the need for greater analytical integration and a stronger rhetorical development of the argument.
Receiving the grade was particularly disappointing because it meant losing the possibility of promoting the subject. After dedicating a considerable amount of time and effort to the proposal, I felt discouraged and frustrated. However, after revisiting the feedback more carefully, I realized that it provided valuable guidance for improving my academic writing. In particular, it helped me identify weaknesses that I had not fully noticed while writing, especially regarding synthesis, conciseness, and the overall organization of a research proposal.
Another important lesson from this task was the importance of APA style. Throughout the writing process, APA formatting became one of my greatest challenges. The feedback made me pay closer attention to details such as heading hierarchy, formatting consistency, citation conventions, and the overall presentation of academic papers. As a result, I became much more aware of how formal conventions contribute to the clarity and professionalism of academic writing.
One difficulty that also influenced the final product was the word and page limit. In several sections, particularly in the literature review, I felt that the restriction forced us to summarize ideas extensively. This may have contributed to the descriptive nature of some paragraphs, since there was limited space to develop deeper comparisons, critical analysis, and synthesis between studies. Having more room to write could have allowed us to engage more fully with the literature and strengthen the argumentative dimension of the proposal.
Despite the challenges and the disappointment I initially felt, this assignment helped me develop a clearer understanding of research proposal writing and academic conventions. Most importantly, it showed me that academic writing is a process of continuous revision and improvement, and that constructive feedback can be an essential part of that process.
